BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH — Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired a state-level steering committee meeting with the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation in Bhopal on April 24, focusing on strengthening the dairy sector and enhancing opportunities for farmers across the state.
The meeting brought together senior officials, representatives of the dairy federation, and stakeholders from the cooperative sector to discuss strategies aimed at improving milk production, expanding processing capacity, and increasing the income of dairy farmers.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Yadav emphasised the importance of the dairy sector in supporting rural livelihoods and boosting the agricultural economy. He noted that dairy farming provides a stable source of income for thousands of farmers, especially small and marginal farmers, and plays a key role in ensuring financial stability in rural areas.
He highlighted that the state government is committed to strengthening cooperative institutions, which serve as a backbone for the dairy sector. According to him, cooperatives help farmers access markets, receive fair prices for their produce, and benefit from government schemes.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the performance of the dairy federation and discussed ways to increase milk procurement and improve supply chain efficiency. He stressed the need to modernise infrastructure, including milk collection centres, chilling plants, and processing units, to ensure better quality and higher output.
Officials informed the meeting that efforts are being made to expand the network of milk collection centres across rural areas, making it easier for farmers to sell their produce. This is expected to increase participation in the cooperative system and enhance overall productivity.
Yadav also underlined the importance of value addition in the dairy sector, encouraging the production of products such as cheese, butter, ghee, and other milk-based items. He said that diversifying products can help increase revenue and create new market opportunities.
The Chief Minister stressed that technology and innovation should be integrated into the dairy sector, including digital tracking systems, improved breeding techniques, and better animal healthcare services. He said that adopting modern practices will help increase efficiency and ensure sustainable growth.
Another key focus of the meeting was on improving animal health and veterinary services, which are essential for maintaining productivity and quality in dairy farming. The Chief Minister directed officials to strengthen veterinary infrastructure and ensure timely support for farmers.
He also highlighted the need for training and awareness programs for farmers, so they can adopt best practices in dairy farming. According to him, capacity-building initiatives will empower farmers and improve their income levels.
The meeting also discussed the importance of linking dairy development with government welfare schemes, ensuring that farmers benefit from subsidies, financial assistance, and technical support provided by the state.
Officials noted that the dairy sector has significant potential for growth in Madhya Pradesh, and with proper planning and investment, it can become a major contributor to the state’s economy.
Observers believe that such high-level meetings reflect the government’s focus on rural development and agricultural diversification, with dairy farming being a key component of this strategy.
Chief Minister Yadav concluded by stating that the government will continue to work towards making the dairy sector more organised, efficient, and profitable, ensuring that farmers receive maximum benefits from their efforts.
The meeting marks an important step in strengthening Madhya Pradesh’s dairy sector, with a focus on modernisation, farmer welfare, and sustainable growth, aimed at boosting rural income and overall economic development.
