CM Mohan Yadav Unveils Multi-Department Strategy to Transform Madhya Pradesh’s Agriculture

Date:

BHOPAL — In a major push toward rural prosperity, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a landmark inter-departmental initiative aimed at doubling farmers’ income and revolutionizing crop production across the state. Speaking at a high-level test workshop in Bhopal, the Chief Minister detailed a comprehensive roadmap that brings together 16 different government departments to work in a synchronized “mission mode.”

The initiative marks the beginning of the “Farmer Welfare Year” (Krishak Kalyan Varsh), a dedicated period focused on transitioning traditional farming into a modern, profitable, and sustainable enterprise.

A Unified Front: 16 Departments, One Goal

The core of this new strategy is the breaking down of administrative silos. Historically, departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries operated independently. Under the new mandate, Chief Minister Yadav has directed these 16 departments to collaborate on a single platform.

By integrating these sectors, the government aims to provide farmers with a “one-stop” support system. For instance, a farmer interested in diversifying from wheat to horticulture will now receive simultaneous support for seeds (Agriculture), irrigation setup (Water Resources), solar pumps (Energy), and market linkages (Cooperatives).

Key Highlights of the Farmer Welfare Initiative

The workshop served as a launchpad for several tech-driven and financial tools designed to empower the state’s farming community:

  • CM Farmer Helpline (155253): A dedicated toll-free number has been launched to provide real-time solutions to agricultural queries, ranging from pest control to scheme eligibility.
  • Farmer Welfare Dashboard: This digital portal will allow for transparent monitoring of all welfare schemes, ensuring that benefits reach the grassroots level without middleman interference.
  • Infrastructure & Mechanization: The state plans to open agricultural machinery shops in every assembly constituency. These centers will allow small and marginal farmers to rent expensive equipment like drones and harvesters at subsidized rates.
  • Solar Empowerment: Under the “Krishak Mitra Yojana,” solar irrigation pumps are being provided with a 90% subsidy, significantly reducing the electricity bills of rural households.

Boosting Income Beyond Traditional Crops

Dr. Yadav emphasized that relying solely on grain production is no longer sufficient for economic growth. The government is heavily promoting Integrated Farming Systems, which encourage farmers to utilize their land for multiple activities such as:

  1. Livestock and Dairy: Encouraging “Milk Villages” to boost the state’s production.
  2. Fisheries and Beekeeping: Providing secondary income streams that are less dependent on rainfall.
  3. Natural and Organic Farming: Reducing input costs by moving away from expensive chemical fertilizers.

To support these shifts, the government has announced significant financial incentives. This includes a bonus of ₹600 per quintal for summer urad and an increase in the procurement price of milk, providing immediate liquidity to rural families.

Strengthening Market Linkages

Addressing the challenge of fair pricing, the Chief Minister highlighted that the state has successfully increased the procurement limit for wheat and is expanding the Bhavantar Scheme (Price Difference Payment Scheme) to include oilseeds like mustard and pulses.

Furthermore, the state is leveraging its 36 “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiatives and 27 GI-tagged products to position Madhya Pradesh as a global hub for organic exports and processed food.

The Vision for 2047

Concluding the workshop, Chief Minister Yadav reiterated that the prosperity of Madhya Pradesh is inextricably linked to the prosperity of its farmers. By leveraging new-age technology, river-linking projects like the Ken-Betwa link, and aggressive inter-departmental coordination, the state aims to become the “food basket” of a developed India by 2047.

The government’s resolve is clear: farming should not just be a means of survival, but a source of pride and high-value entrepreneurship for the youth of Madhya Pradesh.
