MP CM Dr. Mohan Yadav Stresses Harmony with Nature at National Seminar on Green Building Technology

Date:

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – Highlighting the urgent need for sustainable urban development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated a two-day national seminar on Green Building Technology at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre. The event, which coincided with the 113th Governing Council meeting of the Indian Building Congress (IBC), brought together a distinguished gathering of engineers, architects, policymakers, and environmental experts to discuss the future of eco-friendly infrastructure in India.

Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Modern Innovation

Addressing the seminar, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that the concept of living in harmony with nature is not new to India. He noted that traditional Indian architecture has historically been rooted in ecological balance, citing ancient texts like the Samrangana Sutradhar associated with Raja Bhoj.

“Our ancestors understood the importance of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space,” Dr. Yadav stated. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision of integrating this traditional knowledge with modern scientific advancements to solve contemporary environmental challenges. The Chief Minister pointed out that as the world faces the growing threat of global warming and rapid urbanization, returning to these sustainable roots is no longer a choice but a necessity.

Madhya Pradesh Leading the Way in Sustainable Infrastructure

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to making Madhya Pradesh a leader in green initiatives. He highlighted that the building sector stands at a critical crossroads and must adopt resource-efficient methods to reduce its environmental footprint.

Key highlights from the administration’s current efforts include:

  • Government Mandates: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rakesh Singh, who also attended the event, shared that all new government buildings in the state are now being constructed using green building techniques. These designs prioritize natural lighting and advanced ventilation systems to minimize energy consumption.
  • Strategic Partnerships: During the seminar, the state PWD signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with IIT Indore and the GRIHA Council. These collaborations aim to foster research and implement cutting-edge sustainable construction practices across the state.
  • Water Conservation: Linking infrastructure to broader environmental health, Dr. Yadav discussed the ongoing “Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan,” a campaign dedicated to restoring traditional water bodies like wells and stepwells. He proudly noted that Madhya Pradesh currently ranks first in the country for water conservation efforts.

The Benefits of Green Building Technology

The seminar served as a platform to educate stakeholders on the multifaceted advantages of adopting green technologies. Experts discussed how green buildings:

  1. Reduce Carbon Footprint: By using low-emission materials like fly-ash bricks and geopolymer concrete, the construction sector can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Lower Operating Costs: Though initial investments might vary, green buildings offer long-term savings through reduced electricity and water bills.
  3. Enhance Occupant Well-being: Features such as better indoor air quality and natural temperature regulation—which can keep homes up to 5°C cooler in summer—improve the health and comfort of residents.

A Collaborative Path Forward

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a rendition of Vande Mataram, setting a solemn and patriotic tone for the technical sessions that followed. Minister Rakesh Singh welcomed the Chief Minister and guests, noting that the revival of ancient Indian construction methods—seen as far back as the Indus Valley Civilization—is essential for modern progress.

As the 113th Governing Council meeting of the IBC continues, the focus remains on creating a roadmap that balances rapid economic growth with environmental preservation. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav concluded by urging the professional community to continue evolving solutions that ensure the state’s infrastructure is resilient, sustainable, and capable of providing a healthier future for all citizens.

The seminar concluded its first day with the release of several technical journals and newsletters, documenting the latest research in sustainable engineering and architectural design.
