Bhopal: Bhopal is set to strengthen its railway infrastructure as Nishatpura Railway Station, the city’s fourth railway station, begins passenger operations from July 28. The station will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who is scheduled to flag off the Malwa Express during the launch ceremony.
Initially, Malwa Express and Somnath–Jabalpur Express will stop at Nishatpura, marking the station’s entry into regular passenger service after remaining ready for operations for nearly three years.
With the commencement of Nishatpura station, Bhopal will now have four operational railway stations:
- Bhopal Junction
- Rani Kamlapati Railway Station
- Sant Hirdaram Nagar (Bairagarh)
- Nishatpura Railway Station
The new station is expected to improve accessibility for residents in northern parts of the city while easing congestion at Bhopal Junction. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the station at 5:00 PM by flagging off the Malwa Express.
Prior to the inauguration, Minister Vishwas Sarang inspected the station and reviewed preparations, stating that the project will significantly benefit passengers and support the city’s growing transportation needs.
During the first phase of operations, the following trains will halt at Nishatpura:
- Malwa Express
- Somnath–Jabalpur Express
Railway authorities have clarified that these trains will continue to halt at Bhopal Junction in addition to Nishatpura, resolving earlier confusion regarding their stopping pattern.
The opening of Nishatpura Railway Station is expected to deliver several operational advantages:
- Reduced passenger crowding at Bhopal Junction.
- Improved access for commuters living near Nishatpura and surrounding areas.
- Better train movement toward Indore, Ujjain, Bina and Guna routes.
- Reduced operational delays caused by locomotive changes at Bhopal Junction.
- Additional capacity for introducing future train services.
Railway officials estimate that the station will help distribute passenger traffic more efficiently across the city’s rail network.
Around 230 trains pass through Bhopal Junction every day, serving nearly 45,000 passengers daily. By shifting some train operations to Nishatpura, railway authorities expect smoother operations and improved platform availability at the city’s busiest station.
The station has also been upgraded to the NSG-3 (Non-Suburban Grade-3) category under the revised railway station classification system, reflecting its expected passenger traffic and operational importance.
Although construction of Nishatpura Railway Station was completed around 2023, passenger services could not begin until all operational approvals were obtained.
The station now features:
- Passenger platforms
- Public announcement systems
- Modern passenger facilities
- Upgraded operational infrastructure
The launch marks the completion of the station’s transition into a fully operational passenger hub. While the station offers long-term benefits, some commuters have raised concerns about road connectivity.
The approach roads via:
- Nadra Bus Stand
- Chola Road
- Dwarka Nagar
already experience heavy traffic, which may increase travel time for passengers reaching the station. Authorities are also developing additional flyover infrastructure in the area to improve future connectivity.
