Building for the Future: CM Mohan Yadav Champions ‘Green Building Technology’ at Bhopal Seminar

Date:

BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH – In a significant move toward sustainable urban development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated a high-level seminar on “Green Building Technology” at Ravindra Bhavan. Organized by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Madhya Pradesh Building Development Corporation, the event serves as a cornerstone for the state’s vision of blending modern infrastructure with environmental stewardship.

Addressing a gathering of over 2,000 engineers, technical experts, and scholars, the Chief Minister emphasized that construction should no longer be viewed merely as a combination of “bricks and stone.” Instead, he described it as an innovative art form that must prioritize quality, longevity, and a harmonious relationship with nature.

A New Standard for Public Infrastructure

The seminar marked a pivotal shift in the state’s construction policy. Chief Minister Yadav announced that all future government buildings costing over ₹10 crore will strictly adhere to Green Building standards. This mandate is designed to ensure that large-scale projects minimize their carbon footprint while maximizing resource efficiency.

To support this transition, the Chief Minister launched the Project Management System (PMS) 2.0 Portal. This digital platform is expected to:

  • Enhance Transparency: Real-time monitoring of project timelines and budget allocations.
  • Improve Accountability: A defined “Responsible-Accountable-Timeline” framework to record officer roles.
  • Streamline Execution: Integrating GIS-based mapping for better planning of roads and bridges.

Bridging Tradition and Modern Technology

During his keynote address, Dr. Yadav drew inspiration from India’s ancient architectural heritage. He cited the example of Bhopal’s Upper Lake (Bada Talab), noting how historical engineers utilized natural rock formations to store water without disrupting the ecosystem.

He urged modern engineers—whom he referred to as the “living embodiment of Lord Vishwakarma”—to use their expertise in mathematics and science to solve modern environmental challenges. The seminar highlighted that “Green Technology” is not just an aesthetic choice but a financial and ecological necessity.

Strategic Partnerships and Skill Development

Recognizing that technology is only as good as the hands that wield it, the Madhya Pradesh government signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with premier national institutions during the event. These partners include:

  • Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi
  • Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE)
  • IIT Mumbai
  • School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Bhopal

These collaborations aim to provide continuous skill upgradation for state engineers, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest sustainable materials, energy-efficient designs, and waste-reduction techniques.

The Pillars of Green Building Technology

The seminar featured sessions by national experts who outlined the core benefits of adopting eco-friendly construction:

  1. Energy Efficiency: Utilizing natural sunlight and advanced insulation to reduce the reliance on artificial heating and cooling.
  2. Water Conservation: Implementing rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems within building designs.
  3. Occupant Well-being: Using low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) materials to improve indoor air quality and reduce health risks.
  4. Durability: Employing high-quality, sustainable materials that reduce long-term maintenance costs and debris.

A Collective Vision for ‘Developed India @2047’

The event was attended by PWD Minister Rakesh Singh, who echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, stating that infrastructure progress must go hand-in-hand with environmental protection. He noted that the state is aligning its growth with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, ensuring coordinated development across all sectors.

As Madhya Pradesh accelerates its journey toward becoming a leader in green energy and sustainable infrastructure, seminars like these act as the essential bridge between policy and practice. By equipping the next generation of engineers with the tools of sustainability, the state is ensuring that the Bhopal of tomorrow is as resilient as it is beautiful.
