Empowering the Backbone: CM Mohan Yadav Transfers ₹600 Crore to Madhya Pradesh’s Unorganized Workforce

Date:

In a massive push for social security and labor welfare, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav recently facilitated the transfer of ₹600 crore to the bank accounts of thousands of workers across the state. This significant disbursement was conducted under the Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan (Sambal 2.0) Yojana, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to providing a safety net for those working in the unorganized sector.

The fund transfer took place during a high-level meeting in Bhopal, where the Chief Minister utilized a “single-click” digital mechanism to ensure the direct and transparent delivery of benefits. By bypassing intermediaries, the state continues to set a benchmark in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) efficiency, ensuring that the financial aid reaches the intended families without delay.

What is the Sambal Yojana?

The Sambal Yojana (recently upgraded to Sambal 2.0) is a flagship initiative of the Madhya Pradesh government designed to protect laborers who are not covered under formal social security schemes like the Provident Fund (PF) or ESIC. It acts as a lifelong companion for workers, offering financial support from birth through old age.

The scheme specifically targets:

  • Small-scale vendors and tea shop owners.
  • Tendu leaf pluckers and agricultural laborers.
  • Gig and platform workers (recently included to adapt to the modern economy).
  • Any worker in the unorganized sector without a government job or significant land ownership.

Breakdown of Financial Assistance

The ₹600 crore released in this cycle is earmarked for various types of ex-gratia assistance. The scheme provides a structured payout system to help families navigate through crises:

CategoryAssistance Amount
Accidental Death₹4,00,000
General/Natural Death₹2,00,000
Permanent Disability₹2,00,000
Partial Permanent Disability₹1,00,000
Funeral Assistance₹5,000
Maternity Assistance₹16,000

Beyond these cash transfers, registered workers’ children also receive full tuition fee coverage for higher education, ensuring that the next generation has the opportunity to move into more formal sectors of the economy.

Strategic Impact on Rural Economy

By injecting ₹600 crore directly into the hands of the working class, the government is not just providing “relief”—it is stimulating the local economy. When thousands of families in rural and semi-urban Madhya Pradesh receive these funds, the immediate result is an increase in purchasing power. This money typically flows back into local markets for essentials, healthcare, and education, creating a virtuous cycle of economic activity.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized that the government stands as a “pillar of support” for the laborers. He noted that the inclusion of gig workers (such as delivery partners and freelance service providers) ensures that the scheme remains relevant in 2026 and beyond, acknowledging the evolving nature of the Indian workforce.

Ensuring Transparency and Inclusion

To be eligible for these benefits, workers must be residents of Madhya Pradesh and fall below the poverty line. The registration process has been simplified via the Sambal Portal, allowing citizens to apply through local “Lok Seva Kendras” or online.

The recent event in Bhopal serves as a reminder of the scale of this mission. With over 1.74 crore workers registered under the scheme since its inception, the Sambal Yojana remains one of the largest social security umbrellas in India. For the beneficiaries, this ₹600 crore transfer is more than just a number—it is the security of knowing that in times of hardship, the state is watching over them.
