BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH — Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has described the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections as a “festival of democracy”, stressing the importance of peaceful participation while expressing confidence in a major political change in the state.
Speaking in Bhopal, Scindia said that elections are a celebration of democratic values, where citizens get the opportunity to freely express their opinions through voting. He highlighted that democracy is strongest when people actively participate in the electoral process without fear or pressure.
Referring to remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Scindia said the elections represent a “clarion call for change” in West Bengal. According to him, the message coming from the people of the state clearly indicates that they are looking for a shift in governance and leadership.
He expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s chances, stating that the BJP’s flag will fly in West Bengal. He said that the public mood suggests a desire for development, stability, and a new direction for the state. He also added that voters are increasingly focusing on governance and long-term progress.
At the same time, Scindia placed strong emphasis on maintaining peace and law and order during the elections. He said that democracy cannot function properly in an atmosphere of fear, violence, or intimidation. According to him, every voter should feel safe and confident while exercising their right to vote.
He clearly stated that there is no place for violence in a democracy, especially during elections. He warned that any form of disruption or intimidation at polling booths goes against the basic principles of democratic governance.
Highlighting the importance of voting, Scindia made a strong comparison by saying that the voting process is as sacred as visiting a temple for darshan. He explained that just as people maintain respect and discipline at places of worship, the same level of respect should be shown during elections.
He added that violence is unacceptable in religious places, and similarly, it should have no place in the electoral process. This comparison was meant to underline the seriousness and dignity associated with voting in a democratic country.
Scindia urged all stakeholders—including political parties, party workers, election officials, and citizens—to ensure that elections are conducted in a peaceful, fair, and transparent manner. He said that maintaining the sanctity of elections is essential for building public trust in the system.
He also highlighted that free and fair elections form the foundation of democracy, and any attempt to disrupt this process weakens democratic institutions. He called on authorities to remain alert and ensure strict law enforcement throughout the polling period.
