BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH — Madhya Pradesh Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel has announced a major decision taken during the recent state cabinet meeting, calling it a “historic step” aimed at addressing long-standing concerns of farmers regarding land acquisition and compensation.
Speaking about the cabinet decision, Patel said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the government has taken a strong and clear step to ensure that farmers receive fair, proper, and improved compensation when their land is acquired for government or public development projects.
He explained that for many years, farmers and farmer organisations across the state had been demanding better compensation policies, especially in cases where their land was taken for infrastructure projects such as highways, industrial areas, irrigation systems, and urban expansion. According to him, farmers often felt that the compensation they received did not reflect the true value of their land.
Patel said that the government carefully considered these concerns and decided to introduce changes that would directly benefit landowners and reduce dissatisfaction among farmers. He stressed that farmers are the backbone of the state’s economy, and their welfare must be a top priority while planning development projects.
He further said that land acquisition is necessary for the progress and development of any state, but it must be carried out in a way that is fair and transparent. Development should not come at the cost of farmers’ livelihoods, and this new decision aims to strike a balance between growth and justice.
According to Patel, the revised approach to compensation will ensure that farmers are not only financially supported but also feel respected and valued. He added that this move will help build trust between the government and the farming community, which is essential for smooth implementation of development projects.
The minister also highlighted that in the past, issues related to land acquisition often led to delays, protests, and legal disputes, which slowed down important public projects. With improved compensation policies, the government expects fewer conflicts and faster execution of projects.
He said that the cabinet decision is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote inclusive development, where all sections of society benefit from progress. By ensuring fair compensation, the government is trying to create a system where both development and farmers’ welfare go hand in hand.
Patel also pointed out that the state government has been taking multiple steps to support farmers, including better procurement systems, improved irrigation facilities, and efforts to provide better market access for agricultural produce. He said that this latest decision is another important step in strengthening the agricultural sector.
Officials believe that the new policy will encourage cooperation from farmers during land acquisition, as they will feel more secure about their financial future. This, in turn, will help in completing infrastructure projects on time, benefiting the overall economy of the state.
Experts say that such decisions are especially important in states like Madhya Pradesh, where a large population depends on agriculture. Ensuring fair compensation can significantly improve rural livelihoods and reduce economic stress among farming communities.
Patel concluded by saying that the government is committed to listening to farmers and taking action based on their needs and concerns. He described the cabinet’s decision as a reflection of a pro-farmer and development-oriented approach, aimed at creating long-term benefits for both farmers and the state.
The decision marks a significant step towards balancing development with fairness, ensuring that farmers are not left behind as Madhya Pradesh continues to grow and modernise.
